Profile
Born in Nagano Prefecture. He became aware of the joys of painting when he was awarded a special selection award at a Nagano City sketch exhibition at the age of 13. Although he was a member of the fine arts department in both high school and university, he suspended his interest to seek employment. However, he rejoined his path to painting in 1985 when his “Great Wall of China”, drawn during a business trip, was selected for an art exhibition in the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. From that day forward, he continued his self-taught writing activity as he pursued a new field in watercolor painting. Taking the properties of drawing paper in which applied colors soak into the paper, he repeatedly brushes and dries to layer the colors to create a unique style of painting that communicates both transparency and depth. His work earned high acclaim for landscapes that express the emotions of nature and spirit. He has earned several awards at home and abroad including the Prix d’Encouragement (Aile artistique tricoloré) of L’Association des Arts francais in 2010 and the Art Critic Grand Prize in 2013. In addition to several private and group exhibitions, solo exhibitions were held at the Galerie Etienne de Causans in Paris in 2016 and George Billis Gallery in NY in 2019.
